When is rapid weight loss unhealthy
Since having my second child, I have gradually been losing weight. Now I have done a few things to assist in that loss. I gave up soda and developed an exercise regimen. I eat my three meals and then some. I admit, it is higher in sugar than it should be, but I always breakfast, lunch and dinner, though portions are small. At my last visit to my OB/GYN, she actually went and asked my husband if I had developed an eating disorder, since my #'s are gradually decreasing. I recently visited my physician, who found nothing wrong with me. What should or can I do?
Answer:A healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week.
Eat healthy, don't forget the fruits and veggies!
Drink a lot of water throughout the day!
And, get active!
Your physician found nothing wrong so I wouldn't worry much. Just be sure to lose at a healthy rate and don't be afraid to eat! It's a good idea to keep a journal of what you eat, when you eat and how many calories you're taking in. That way you can look back and make adjustments if necessary.
Weight loss of 1-2 lbs per week is considered a "healthy" rate because it represents fat loss. The key is that rapid weight loss may signify water weight, which is not healthy because you need to be well hydrated to flush toxins out of the body and help your digestive tract function properly. Rapid weight loss could also signify muscle loss, which is not healthy because muscle is the tissue that helps determine the metabolic rate. Musle loss can cause weakness and a slowed metabolism, which will lead to weight regain because the body can't deal with calories as well as it did before. Hope that makes sense to you. It sounds like you've done the right things by deleting sugary drinks and getting some exercise. I'd also encourage you to make sure to eat lots of fruits and vegetables as well. Good luck!
