When calculating your BMI does it take into account muscle mass/weight over the weight of fat

or is it strictly your weight vs. height no matter if you're just more muscular?

Answer:

BMI=weight divided by height squared. It is all based on weight to height ratio and does consider your body fat composition.

A percentage body fat measurement is more accurate. Even using a measuring tape will give you a better indication of your progress.

Here is a link to some info that explains the different ways of measuring body composition.

Just weight and height, not muscle. Its just a guide and isnt real effective. Go to your gym and ask them to use those calipers and do a real body fat measurement.

theres a difference between bmi and body fat.

There is a range ov BMI for height and weight. It takes into account muscular vs flabby.
I don't think it does, which is why body builders can get a BMI showing they are obese when they aren't. It's really just a guideline for average people with average, muscle/ fat ratios.
Nope, BMI is purely your weight versus your height. It doesn't take into account frame size or muscle mass. That's why it often misclassifies people as being underweight/overweight, when they are perfectly healthy.

If you want to know if you are healthy, have your body fat percentage tested. This will tell you for sure.
