What kind of exercises can I do to stay fit

I recently got a injury in my knee (torn meniscus), so I can't run or do any extreme sports. What else should I do then?

Answer:

If you have had a torn meniscus, you will probably be having surgery to repair it. After surgery, your doctor will prescribe physical therapy. Your physical therapist will guide you through exercises that will not allow you to harm your knee.

You can always do upper body exercise... such as lifting light weights with your arms. Just be careful that you dont drop anything on your knee...

I would avoid any exercise unless it is approved by your physician or physical therapist.


Swimming, no stress on the knee.....
Walk around in a smooth trail daily
Try to get on an eliptical (spelled wrong) the machene that lets you walk or jog in place without actually moving your knees all that much!
You can do strenght training. Some low impact muscle toning excersizes. Maybe even low impact streching. Hope you get better soon, peace.
Weight lifting, sit ups, swimming, use your imagination. :P
Try low impact exercises(Low impact is easier on the knees and lower body) like walking or anything that isn't high impact. I'd contact your doctor before starting any regime since you are already injured.
Well, I myself had a knee injury when I was in middle school. I was on a swim team at the time, so my coach said to me, "Get into the shallow end of the pool and do lunges."

I looked at her and was like..are you kidding me? But it actually works! Within 2 weeks of doing lunges, my knee felt AMAZING!

You can also do water aerobics. Tell your instructor that you just had a knee injury, and ask her for additional advice.
