Are you eating prior to running? That can cause it sometimes


I'll tell you what helps me. ..Make sure you fully exhale...also periodically take quick in and out breaths. Good luck.
deep breaths in through your nose out through your mouth. It's possible you're breathing too fast. If you're not in shape this is going to happen for a while.
I've been racing, running and otherwise training for a LONG time.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has ever nailed that one down.


stitch is the same as cramp but in the muscles surrounding your lungs. i dohnt know what to suggest to prevent it though

Side stitches are caused by spasms of the diaphragm muscle which controls breating to a large degree. When your running your internal organs, especially the liver, pull down on the diaphragm because they are connected to it via tendons.

When you are running don't take shallow breaths, take deep breaths that cause your belly to come out on the inhale. Shallow breaths keep your diaphram higher up and your liver pulls down harder.

If you get a side stitch, when you exhale purse your lips like your trying to blow out birthday candles when the opposite foot hits the ground. (If pain is on right exhale when left foot hits.) Core strengthening exercises also may help because they will allow for less movement of the internal organs.
