Tips on working out
Heres what i'm trying to do in 4 months
- build up my tricepts/bicepts (basically my arms) & lose some fat around them
- build up my shoulders and upper back
- build up lower and upper abs
*male / i weigh 153 lbs and im 18
ps. the only equipment i have are two 25 lb dumbells
Can you tell me some tips or what type of workout i should do and how many sets? thank you
Answer:You're going to need more weight! 25 lbs is too heavy for some exercises you will definitely want to do (like lateral arm raises) and too light for others (like shoulder press or bench press). Buy a used weight set with bench at a yard sale. If more weights are not an option, you could probably find somewhere to do pull-ups and dips, at least. Push ups won't help build strength or definition nearly as well or as fast as weights...
For a beginner, start with relatively light weights and do 2 sets or 10 or more reps, with 1 min. rest between sets. Try to work the same muscle group 3 times a week, but no more. You will increase in strength very quickly in the beginning, so don't be afraid to add weight as needed. You can improve quite a bit in 4 months if you stick to it!
Also, you should really train your legs and core too, if you care at all about functional strength.
The American College of Sports Medicine offers guidelines for cardiovascular, flexibility and resistance training. The guidelines are flexible enough to allow you to pick your own exercises but have enough structure to get you going when you first start out. They are pretty easy to follow and will make your workout easier and more efficient.
