Thinking about buying an eliptical machinewill this be a good way to tone legs as well as cardio
I really need to get my butt and thighs into shape. BUT also I want a machine that is good cardio... what do you think???
Answer:I love the eliptical. It really does work!! Especially for legs and buttocks!
Elliptical machines have been shown to be good machines for cardio training. The benefit that you get from it in the cardio department though will be linked to how intensely you train on it.
Regarding getting certain parts of your body into shape. Doing exercise on an elliptical machine will obviously exercise the muscles in those body areas, but it is important to note that it is IMPOSSIBLE to spot reduce. The only way to lose fat in a certain area is to reduce your overall body fat percentage. Although it may appear as though you are spot reducing, this normally just occurs because these areas are more prone to fat build-up than other areas in the body.
Bottom line: Yes, elliptical can work for what you seek and it's easier on the joints than running. Use it hard, use it often, and eat healthier and your goals are well within your reach.
If you want to tone your butt and thighs, just do squats. You can search on the internet the proper form just to make sure you are not using other muscles that can cause you a muscle strain or injury. Using eliptical machine can burn you more calories than treadmill on the same intensity..... Its also good for the knee because of less impact on the joint. Make sure to do it 3-4x/wk and 30 minutes or more. Then the most important thing is you should have a good diet plan.... goodluck!!!!
