Will i have to pay for a failed root canal

I had a root canal and it might have failed...Do I have to pay for this since research says they fail only b/c all of the canal was not cleaned? I do not have insurance anymore. I have spent a lot of money at this dentist

Answer:

Ouch. The same happened to me. I changed my dentist and the new one referred me to an endodontics. I didn't go after my money. So I don't know if you could get it back or something.

How can you have a root canal that "failed"?

If you ask me it's your dentist who has "failed".

First of all dentists should not be doing root canals. A specialist, who does solely ROOT CANALS should be doing them. Why? So they don't "fail".

A messed up root canal can cause you a lifetime of problems, and if you thought a specialist was a lot, imagine if the rest of your teeth abscess from a botched up procedure.

I would not pay unless he does a successful job. Report him if he doesn't.

An Endodonthist does Root Canals. Not a Dentist. If you are having problems do not pay. Yes I know Dental work is very expensive and often poorly done. Yes do take action and report him.
In what way do you think it has failed? There are more reasons than simply not having been cleaned properly.

If you just refuse to pay without some evidence that you have tried to determine the "problem", then you'll look like you're just trying to avoid a debt. It won't be good for you if he pursues the debt thru legal channels and you end up with a bad debt record. Your first step should be to return to the dentist with your concerns. See what he has to say. If you're not happy then either seek a second opinion from another dentist or preferably a specialist endodontist. Keep records of where you go and what was said.

Contrary to the above posts, general dentists can do RCTs, and very successfully. It is not just for specialists. The wisdom is knowing when to send a difficult case to a specialist.

e.g. Would you go to an oral surgeon for every extraction? Would you go to an ENT specialist every time you get a chest cold?
