Short answer is that ceramics are prettier on your teeth, they camouflage much better and don't look like you have a metal factory in your mouth.

It's more than supply and demand. They are more difficult to affix to the teeth and more likely to come off. The materials also cost more to the dentist.

Ceramic brackets do cost more to the orthodontist. They are harder to work with, because they are not as strong as the metal brackets. They are very brittle and can break or chip when they are removed. The perk to the patient is that once they have them on, they are less visible to others.
