Rather have the correct diagnosis made from clear xrays than incorrect diagnosis!!

My dentist isn't xray happy. They take them every other time I get my teeth cleaned which turns out to be about once a year. They are just checking to see if there are any changes and the xray allows them to see any cavities that could be growing between the teeth.

It's not the x-rays that they are happy about; It's the dollars and cents that come along with the x-rays that bring them joy. Kidding. I think that a lot of problems with teeth are not on the surface so they have this technology to look inside your teeth and they are hell bent using it.

your mouth is a very small space to work in and sometimes it is difficult to obtain a good clear picture, however...they know the outcome of the xrays before you ever leave the office and you shouldn't have to make a special trip for x rays unless they are crooks or totally incompitent. they are required by the state to obtain xrays at least once a year to treat you. if they do not have this on your file they can recieve a fine for being out of compliance. they use the x rays to detect any changes, or advancing disease. also, if your dead unrecognizable corpse is founf they will need current x rays to identify you. it is probably not dangerous.

may be due to less expertise and more grabbing nature... best consult a good dentist who is well experienced and cleared many cases (cleared doesn`t mean clearing teeth, but gave desired result to patients! :-)) ..)

Normally you only get x-rays [bitewings] once a year, or every other checkup. It may be more often if you have problems. The hygienist/dentist is just checking to make sure you don't have any cavities or decay going on. They're just looking out for you. If you feel they're doing something wrong, bring it up with your dentist or hygienist. If you feel uncomfortable I suggest going to a different dentist. Don't be afraid of the radiation. It's minimal in dental x-rays.
