They want to do more X-rays every time you come into the office. Then they claim they don't turn out well and say "sorry, we have to do them all again". I don't think this is safe!

Answer:

If they are re-taking x-rays because they didn't turn out clear, they BETTER not be charging you. (I'm a dentist.)

Personally, I'd say that, if a staff member is taking the x-rays and they are not coming out well, you should ask to have the dentist take the x-rays so they will come out right.

I am NOT slamming all auxilliaries with an x-ray license, but just saying that the one in THIS questioner's office doesn't seem to be that good at it yet.

I was just to the dentist this week. You know it--had to have x-rays. She told me it was because I hadn't been there in a while and she wanted to see if there was a change. They are looking for cavities and things like bone loss and the roots. And yes, I had to have one x-ray done twice.

The xrays need to be clear. SO sometimes the xrays dont come out clear and need to be retaken so that the dentist can see clearly what is happening. The radiation is minimal..it has been stated that you get more radiation flying in an aeroplane than get xrayed. In addition you do wear the protective apron etc so its even less radiation.
