Whats the best thing to use for mouth pain
My gums are sore. I know I need to get to a dentist but I have too much other stuff on my plate right now. Does anyone know whats the best home remedy or over the counter product to use? I have tried just about everything I can think of.
Answer:Well, first, start of by brushing and flossing as well as you can, even if it bleeds. In many cases the bleeding is a good way to start the cleaning process. Just don't go at it too hard or for more than 3 minutes.
Next gargle with a good antiseptic mouthwash and keep it in for the full amount they recomend.
All of this will hurt a bit of course.
Next, put some salt in some hot water, as salty and warm as you can tolerate. Swish and gargle several times, and you can keep the extra for use later if you reheat it.
After you are done, wait about 20 minutes. Don't eat or drink anything while doing all of this of course.
If it still hurts then suck on cloves or rub some clove oil on the sore spots. DO NOT USE ambesol or other similar products because some people have had some very bad allergic reactions to it, especially children.
A general pain reliever is okay, but bear in mind that all of them do have a tendency to do a certain amount of liver damage and deplete vitamin B stored in the liver. Aspirin is actually the least harmful for most people, but not on an empty stomach.
Finally, you should repeat these steps until things feel better but if it lasts more than about three days you will really need serious dental care and probably antibiotics.
