I'm getting my top two wisdom teeth removed tomorrow with IV sedation. How do you feel when you wake up? I've had IV sedation once before, but don't remember a lot. I've also had general anesth several times, and waking up was horrible. I tend to take several hours to come out of it. I'm not worried about the pain from the extraction, I'm more worried about waking up feeling disoriented and scared. Anybody have good experiences with waking up?

Answer:

Listen, when you FIRST wake up you will not know where you are and will be really groggy and dizzy. The assistants will help you to the recovery room and have you lie down for a while. No sudden movements or you might tip over. I was a little frightened AT FIRST myself until I saw my mom there, then I was ok. Have someone come with you (you will have to anyways to drive you home) but this way you will recognize someone right away.

It's FUN. I had a great experience with passing out & waking up again. I actually woke up once during the surgery for a brief second, didn't feel any pain, but remember seeing people over me and hearing the drill (UGH!). You'll feel out of it, definitely. But you get to go home & sleep & take all kinds of happy drugs. :)

The bloody gauze in your mouth isn't very tasty or attractive but hey...

I had mine pulled with the gas....... when you first wake up, you don't really feel anything because you are numbed up with novacaine........ after a few hours you will be feeling the pain, however.....they gave me Vicadine for pain, but it didn't really help, i had to take tylenol with it..... you will be fine, it does hurt, but I am sooooo glad that it is over and my mouth feels great now!

I don't remember anything from when my wisdom teeth were pulled I had all four done at the same time and I was soooo out of it that when my brother (he drove me home) stopped at Walgreens to get the prescription filled he came out to the parking lot to find me laying on the hood of his car drooling . . he made fun of me over it for years I still don't remember any of it and the pain wasn't that bad the next day when I did get my witts about me.
