Answer:

Do you want the fee the lab charges the dentist or what the dentist charges the patient?

I'm still a little confused with the extra lab fee on top of cost of crown. If I'm reading that right, it's wrong. There is only one cost of lab fee for a "specific type" crown to be made. The lab charges no other fees or hidden fees, just their standard PFM or PFG and they are all with in a few dollars of each other, unless your using full gold then it's by weight and based on what the price of gold is that day or a speciality crown like impress or bio 2000 which are higher prices due to gold or difficulty working with. So anyway back to "What the lab charges the Dentist (this will shock you) average crown $105.00 and if the dentist does a lot of work with him there may be a discount of anywhere from 5-10 dollars off that. So, the dentist doesn't just hand the lab and an impression and say "make me a crown," he has some prep work to do by removing the enamel off your tooth and all the impressions and making you a temporary, so he does deserve a little something, but not $720.00 for a "discounted crown." I'm sorry but there is no way that fee would work for me. Although it does depend on where you live also, larger cities have higher prices just as smaller ones do just as good work but get less money for their job. The average cost of a crown "without any discount" is anywhere from $600.00 to $700.00 slightly higher if there is a build up involved (usually another $100.00 added on) and depending on the dentist in my city and I am in a large city. So I would shop around if I were you and see just where your "discount" is with this dentist. Sorry I couldn't say all is great with this quote, but too many family members in dentistry and dental labs to tell you differently. Hope I've been of some help and that you will look around a little for a better price. No sence getting a "discount" when the price is "jacked up" somewhere else taking it away from you. Sure does make me glad that my solid gold molar crown cost me a big $50.00 just a few years ago, love getting my dental free! Sorry, had to rub that in a little.
