What is the best way to relax while getting an injection at the dentist? What to do if you feel like your getting ready to cry? What does dentists think of that? HOw come they expect for you to relax so much especially when your in pain? Can they read body language as well as they say and how? What tips do you have?

Answer:

Find the right DMD. I can get people numb without you noticing. Just find the right DMD and you'll do great.

I recently had a root canal & yes its painful to relax--I find breathing deep in & out in & out, in & out & closing my eyes works.

A friend of mine puts really relaxing music (to her) on a mp3 player & listens to it while she's at the dentist.

If he needs her--he taps her chin, she opens her eyes & listens & then goes back into the zone.

all docters are trained in physical human reactions so yes, you dentist can read your body language to an extent. some doctors simply dont care about reading thier patients body language so it all just depends on the doctor
It depends on how well they say they can read your body language and how well they actually can.

Given the fact that every muscle in my b ody was tense and my tear ducts were letting tears slip, my last dentist could read my body language.

How did I fix the problem? I took 2 xanax, 2 norco, and 4 shots of rum before I went in (but of course, don't tell my dentist - he thought I had made great progress).

Bring some music with you. B4 he goes to work slip on your headphones and that'll help distract you. If your feeling pain make sure you let him know by raising your hand. They say they can look at your eyes through the funky googles and tell whether your in pain or not. But that doesn't always work. So, make sure you get his attention without startling him. Good Luck.
Did your dentist apply a topical cream to numb the area they were injecting to? If not then I would be asking them to do so. This cream affectively numbs the area so that when they inject the anaesthetic you tend not to notice as much. Dentists are also taught to inject very slowly so there is no pain but if you have your eyes open watching them do it it could upset you. Closing your eyes and taking nice deep breaths through your nose are the key...if you have your eyes closed and are breathing deeply why not think of your favorite place...the beach...spa, having a massage...anything that makes you feel relaxed...you will do fine
